We all know that friends are important. I read somewhere that who you are is a compilation of the five people that you interact with the most. So have you chosen the right group of friends to surround yourself with?
The right friends are there to always help you grow. One is never better than the other as we all have a lot to learn from each other. A friend should never think that he/she has more wisdom than others. If you’re stuck with that mentality, you will never grow as an individual and your character will become stagnant. Every single one of us has traits in which we need to improve and our best friends are there to help us become better people.
A friend should perform deeds of generosity, without expecting anything in return. If you truly care for your friends, concentrate on what’s important. Their happiness. You should not act a certain way, just in hopes of receiving the same back or having the glory of being a “good friend”. It kind of defeats the purpose of your actions, don’t you think? A good friend has a genuinely giving heart, not an expecting heart. Good friends will not give only as much as they get.
Good friends are there to provide you with 100% support and loyalty, but still staying realistic and straight forward. If you’re acting a fool, that good friend should be there to call you out on it. Supporting a flaw when one knows it’s wrong is counterproductive! Nobody likes to hear their flaws but if you are receptive to constructive criticisms, you will have an upper hand on most people in the world. Think about it…it only helps you improve who you are in the end.
It can be difficult to find the right friends. It can be difficult for yourself to work on being a great friend. But it’s important to your life so I think it’s time for each and every one of us to get cracking!
A side note for the friends that I currently have in my life: You are all simply amazing. You’re awesome in every way and I learn so much from you each day and from every single one of you. You continue to inspire me and I thank you.
