“Excellent job out there, keep up the good work!”

“You’re one hell of a friend, I appreciate you.”

“Thank you…for everything that you have done for me.”

“You’ve got a gift and great potential, you shouldn’t be afraid to share it with the world.”

We’ve all heard these words at one point or another in our lives. How do encouragements work? Well, we love hearing it! And even better, when we do hear it, it moves us to work harder, strive faster, and it builds up that ultimate determination to accomplish our goals. It is a natural high in our lives and we need more of it.

While we do need more of it, it doesn’t seem society is always on target with it. People have become overly-negative.

“You can do better than that.”

“Don’t do it, you’ll fail for sure.”

“You’re not like these great minded people, you weren’t born with the same potential.”

All words of hurt and lies. You can do whatever you want. We all have our skills and passions. Don’t be afraid to show it to the world. If you can, avoid these people of negativity. They’re not good for your life. If you can’t get away (the words are coming from your parents, and you should never stray from family), then change the way you think and perceive the situation. It’s hard, believe me, I’ve been there. But practice it. You change your mentality to think that the words aren’t meant to be hurtful, but simply words of worry because they care about you so much. Mentality is key. Believe in yourself and your world will look tenfolds different.

Encouragement moves us. Encouragement drives us. Surround yourself with individuals who believe in you. It’s important. We only live once. I need to emphasize this big time: Maximize your full potential. Show the world what you’ve got!

In turn, give it back. Genuinely encourage those who need it and don’t need it. It doesn’t have to be a situation in which somebody needs to hear it to keep going. A phrase as simple as “thanks for being a great friend” will go a long way. That individual will continue to strive to be a great friend and find other ways to become better.

Find ways to encourage daily in every role you play: as a parent, a child, a sibling, friend, boss, employee, anything! I’m a true believer in using words to transform the human mind and actions. Encouraging words can literally shape who we are. Are you ready to be the individual that can make a difference in somebody’s life?
