Working on weekends and holidays when it’s not necessary. Unresponsive bosses. Co-workers on power trips even if you’re practically on the same level. Office gossip. Maybe even some back-stabbing to get ahead.
The workplace can be a very vicious arena. It’s almost as if you have to battle your way to the top leaving people wounded along the way. Say in due time you become that gladiator that achieves that “leadership” role. Are you really a winner? Not exactly.
A winner and leader combination is one who got there because they were hard working, ethical, and took care of everyone along the way. Winning leaders do not change who they are to conform. They do not believe that people above and below them are inferior. They treat everyone equal. They know that everyone plays their role in running a smooth organization. They have their beliefs, stick to it, and ultimately win. Winning leaders own their spirits.
You may respond by saying, “Well, a leader is a leader.” Yes, but no. The difference for a winning leader is that he/she has earned respect and people are more than willing to follow without force. Because of this key aspect, that leader will achieve ten folds more than any other leader.
So, even if you’re not a considered a “leader” yet in your organization, that does not mean that you cannot own your spirit. Drown out all the noise and commotion that surrounds your office. Be who you are and who you want to be. If you have a boss that is less than acceptable, use your mind, be creative, and find a way around it. And when you ultimately achieve that boss level, remember exactly who you shouldn’t be. Learn the positive aspects of those around you, never the negative.
Own your spirit in every work situation, whether good, bad or just outright disastrous. Don’t stoop to the levels that you wouldn’t be proud of yourself. Let others be who they are. Just ensure you are exactly who you are and want to be, work hard, and the rest will unravel.
